our house

Home Sweet Home

WELL we are officially homeowners! David and I have been living in a rental home for the last 3 years in a wonderful neighborhood, Underwood Hills. We love the feeling of living in a house and having a yard but not owning our home really limited my decorating dreams. I haven’t been able to remodel, I’ve had to restrain on switching out light fixtures and trying my hand at landscaping. Painting has really been my biggest opportunity for expression because it’s not that expensive. Read more…

Dog Beds for Earl

A Bed For Earl

I know I’ve been missing for quite a while; work and life have been keeping me super busy. First off, David and I bought a house last week- ahh! I’ve got a lot of projects on the house I’m excited to share with you guys as we get rolling. I’ve also got some new, amazing clients that I am excited to be working with.

Today I’ve been on the hunt for a small dog bed for one of my long time clients. He has this bad-ass Pekingese named Earl (a well suited name). Read more…

Bev Shots: English Oatmeal Stout

Alcohol Art

No these are not abstract paintings inspired by outrageous drunken nights. These photographs are super high-quality images of popular cocktails under a microscope- isn’t science cool! The company BevShots uses a method of photographing crystallized drinks under a polarized microscope to make this unique and vibrant photographs. They sell the images as prints, wrapped canvas, bar ware, even scarves and ties. I’m thinking a tequila neck scarf is a brilliant way to say “Happy 21st Birthday”! The prints are pretty affordable and make for an interesting story. There are tons of BevShots on their website, they even have a tool to help you narrow down the search by favorite drinks or your wall color. Check out some of my favorites below as well as the English Oatmeal Stout above. Read more…

2nd Place DWR

The Champagne Chairs

Yesterday Design Within Reach announced their winners for the 2013 DWR Champagne Chair Contest. This annual contest starts during the Holiday Season- when people have an abundance of champagne flowing in their homes. The guidelines are that you can use ONLY the foil, cage and cork from 2 bottles of champagne to create a miniature chair.

The first place winner is the “Rockin’ Chaise” below by Miwa F. The drink hold moves and the craftsmanship is pretty impressive. Miwa is the lucky winner of a $1,000. DWR Gift Card (I could spend that in 20 minutes easily). The second place winner is featured above because I think it’s the most unique and I can’t imagine the fickle little fingers that put this thing together. Jeffery Molter created this modern folding chair that stores in a tiny gold suitecase. As a second place winner, Jefferey get’s a $500. gift card. Read more…

Spotlight On: Kelly Reemtsen

I first came across Kelly Reemtsen a while back on The Jealous Curator- which is a freaking amazing art blog. I just breezed by her work again on Pinterest this weekend and I wanted to show you guys because it’s amazing. Kelly’s work is a smart and funny look at the feminine role in the American society. Her subject matter is typically women dressed in 1950′s cocktail attire holding tools associated with the male gender. One of her collections is named “Starving For Perfection” and I love the imagery of these headless, faceless, dare I say lifeless housewives. To me they’re either picking up their husbands slack or if you want to see things a little darker, their tools have an eerie vibe of becoming weapons for an unsatisfied woman about to go nuts- ever seen Snapped on Oxygen?? No matter- her brush strokes are beautiful and the candy colors are playful and lively. I could totally see Kate Spade using her work in their boutiques! Read more…

her fashionable bedroom

Her Imaginary Fashionable Bedroom

Happy Hump Day everyone. Today I have another imaginary room for you- inspired by this fantastic Mini-Fashionista. I found her picture on Pinterest, it’s from a children’s line by All Saints- love them. You have to check out the whole children’s collection here, the tiny little models are so fresh and sassy! I imagine this little girl is a “City Child”, she’s growing up downtown with her Socialite parents and has developed some sophisticated taste. She’s still young enough that she wants to be comfortable and free to play but she likes the fantasy of being on the covers of her Mom’s favorite magazines. I designed her room to be neutral and contemporary, the palette is something she can grow into and the layers of pillows, patterns, and fabrics can inspire her to express her taste every day.

Shots of Strongbox West

I hope everyone had a great Christmas this year, now time to get ready to bring in the New Year! As this year closes so does one of my projects. I’ve been working with the owners of Strongbox West for a good while now. Their co-working space is 24 hours so most of our improvements have been spaced out over time so we don’t cause to much disruption for the hard workers inside. We also worked on a budget, so spreading out the process over time made big projects more obtainable. Read more…

Cheerful Winter Update

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! I hope you guys have a beautiful Holiday with friends and family. Tonight David and I are celebrating Christmas early and tomorrow we head up to Gainesville to be with family. I picked a pretty silly time of year to update our bedroom but I got a wild hair to brighten up the place just before Christmas. When we moved into this house a few years ago I really wanted a dark and moody bedroom (Zen-like). The loft we lived in before this was full of light and noise. So, when we moved into this sweet little house in a residential neighborhood I decided to flip the switch and go dark and cozy. Read more…

West Elm Market Opens

West Elm has come up with a really cool collection of home goods that they are calling the West Elm Market. The look of the line reminds me of things you would find at a Country General Store- only slightly more posh. They describe it as “Full of clever, hard-working, time-saving, clutter-busting solutions for everyday living, West Elm Market is your total home toolkit. Designed to delight, made to be used”. There are so many cool and useful products that I couldn’t share them all, I tried my hardest to narrow it down to these few from each department; Kitchen, Garden, Care & Repair, and Personal Care.
